Tea and Ties

My Dear Sir:

Because of you
I know the meaning of
Milky builders tea and
I am sure that last night
Watching the movie about Hawking
I remained one of the few
If not the only viewer who understood
His eyebrow request for builders tea
Which you find disgusting
Except on cold chilly nights
Otherwise tea for you equals Earl Grey
With a touch of lemon
Perhaps adding a bit of lapsang souchong
To heighten the flavor of the teapot's steaming treat
How posh
And neckties
Those four-in-hand of knots
That I can now identify
And that you sport regularly
Though I've recently spotted
A Windsor now and then
Around your neck
Has fame finally caused a change
In your necktie peculiarities
In a way
I hope not
Showing up to meet royalty
Wearing a schoolboy knotted tie
Sets you apart
Is your signature
Perhaps a sign
That you maintain
Your self
As you always have been
In spite of grabbing
The brass ring
On your merry go round
Of fame and fortune
That you might remain
Approachable
In spite of drinking Earl Grey
With lemon and lapsong souchong
That the common ground
Of milky builders tea
Spreads out before us
While you bind us up
With a schoolboy knot
And we wonder faraway
From brass rings and merry go rounds
